Hands-on Training – New Operators

accident10.jpg

At 2:30 p.m. on April 12, 2019, an employee was working for a firm that manufactured grain storage, grain drying and handling equipment, and steel buildings. She was working at the firm's warehouse. A coworker was operating a forklift nearby. He had just finished loading a flat side trailer with the product. At the same time, the employee was on the ground, taking pictures and documenting the load. She was standing behind the forklift. When the forklift driver backed up, the employee did not move away in time. She was run over. She fractured several bones in her toes and ankles. She was hospitalized."

Why is Hands-on Training Required?

Operator training is the next module after operators successfully complete the hands-on orientation module.  This is where employees will be introduced to the actual operator training portion of the course.  This is where all of the previous training and development culminates.

Your employees are required to successfully complete the requirements of the previous training modules throughout the course.  Employees who do not successfully complete training will not be permitted to operate the equipment for safety reasons.

Your instructor will guide your operator training participants through pre-operational checks, completing required checklists, red-tag procedures and all modules reviewed in the classroom/lecture portion of the training.

Your instructor will also discuss other specific program elements to drive safety in your facility.  This could include racking array safety, flue spacing/fire safety, traffic patterns, site-specific hazards, and facility concerns.
