Forklift Instructor & Train-the-Trainer Programs

Employee Forklift Training classes include training for instructors on all truck types.  OSHA permits employers to deliver their own onsite forklift certification classes.  OSHA requires instructors to posses the knowledge, skills and ability to deliver a structured training program that includes an education or lecture component, introduction/orientation to the truck, conducting required pre-shift safety inspections, hands-on training, operator observation and coaching.  Remember, if you have a serious forklift of powered industrial truck related accident, OSHA will come onsite to conduct a comprehensive accident investigation.  One of the first things that an OSHA compliance officer will ask to see are your training records.  Those records would include forklift instructors, operator certifications and even pedestrian safety training.

What to Look for in a Good Training Provider

A quality, reputable powered industrial truck training provider should ensure your training is compliant with all relevant OSHA codes.  A training provider should never claim to be OSHA certified as OSHA does not certify training programs or providers.  Next forklift training classes should follow all required OSHA training components including those mentioned above.  Training providers should always include detailed training documentation that is provided to them, in original copies, following the conclusion of training.  Be sure that all training participants complete a knowledge assessment test and verification of operator skills.  Participants who complete their required training and evaluation of skills should receive a certificate of completion and an operator's license.

How Long Should Forklift Training Take?

Good forklift training times may vary slightly.  However, forklift training times should include sufficient time for forklift education, hands-on introduction, hands-on training, and practice sessions.  Your operators should receive no less than 20 minutes of behind-the-wheel instruction.  This should include driving familiarization, load handling, and more.  This would not include time for participants to practice.  In total, a forklift training class should take about 4-6 hours depending on the number of participants in the class.  We suggest trying to keep your classes to roughly 6-7 people but no more to avoid having employees standing around being non-productive while their co-workers are operating equipment.  The number of trucks available for training will also impact the amount of behind-the-wheel time employees will experience during their forklift and material handling equipment operator class.

Payment for your training can be made by credit card, check or cash.  All credit card transactions can be completed online in the scheduling assistant above.  All check payments for your forklift operator and powered industrial truck operator training programs should be made payable to "Employee Forklift Training, LLC".
